Adopt Uniting American Families Act (SM1003/HM2004)

SM1003 & HM 2004 would urge Congress and the President, on behalf of the state of Arizona, to enact the Uniting American Families Act, federal legislation that would allow gay and lesbian American citizens and permanent residents to sponsor their foreign-born partner for immigration rights in the same manner that a heterosexual person can sponsor their opposite-sex spouse.

The Uniting American Families Act seeks to fulfill the promise of family unification in the United States immigration system.

Subject: Strengthen American Families - Support the Uniting American Families Act

Dear [ Decision Maker ] ,

You have the opportunity to help strengthen American families by urging Congress and the President to enact the Uniting American Families Act.

This piece of federal legislation would give American citizens and legal permanent residents the ability to unite with their foreign-born permanent same-sex partner in the same way that a heterosexual person can sponsor their opposite-sex spouse.

SM 1003 and HM 2004 would send a message to Congress and the President that immigration policy should support the families of all American citizens and legal permanent residents, regardless of the couple's sexual orientation.

Please support SM 1003 and HM 2004.

Sincerely,

Background Information

Gay and lesbian families, where one of the partners is an immigrant, face the threat of deportation simpl because they are gay.  Married couples have the right to sponsor their partners for immigration rights, but same-sex permanent partners do not.
