Activists At Work! Results Of Your Efforts:

Thanks to the calls and emails from hundreds of MERI members, we have solidified the support of both Representatives Langevin and Kennedy for an inclusive Employment Non-Discrimination Act.

We're still not sure that they would oppose a motion to "recommit", or amend, the bill - and it's important that we make sure they're with us on this important part of our strategy. So please call your Representative TODAY, and tell them not only that we support the original Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA), but that we oppose any amendments or bills that strip protections for transgender people.

Below is a sample message containing 2 important questions you can ask a staff member. After your call, please let the United ENDA team know what they said by emailing the answers to the two questions to lobbyreport@nctequality.org.

Just call the Capitol Switchboard at (202) 224-3121 and they will connect you based on your zip code. You can also learn about your member at www.house.gov.

Sample message:

Hello my name is [First Name] [Last Name] and I'm calling to follow up on an e-mail I sent Representative [rep last name] about H.R. 2015, the original version of ENDA that includes both sexual orientation and gender identity. This is the only version of ENDA that I support because it protects all lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people.

I'd like to know exactly where Representative [rep last name] stands on H.R. 2015, the original ENDA that protects all people in our community. Is Representative [rep last name] committed to supporting H.R. 2015?

Is the Representative committed to OPPOSING a motion to recommit, or any amendment, that would strip transgender protections out of the bill?

Thank you very much. Please let Representative [rep last name] know how much the LGBT community opposes moving forward with a bill that doesn't protect all in our community.

Thank you so much for making this call and letting us know how it went. We want you to know that over 270 organizations are working hard to mobilize their members to make calls just like you made. Together we can and are making our voice heard.
