Thank Your Legislator for Supporting Domestic Partnership Protections

Your representatives in the State Capitol need to hear from YOU, their constituents, about how domestic partnerships will provide critical protections that will positively impact your life.  Please write in the space below about how domestic partnerships would improve the life of you or someone you care about.  It's important that you share your personal story so you provide your legislator with the knowledge he or she needs to continue to support about domestic partnership protections.

Please use the tool below to e-mail your legislator, sharing your personal story with them to illustrate what impact domestic partnership protections would have on you and your family, and thank them for their continued support on the measure.

Recommendations on sharing your story

·      Be concise.

·      Think about one or two personal points to make.  This can be about your own family, relatives, or friends who are lesbian or gay.

·      Stories or examples that are related to health care, family leave, or end of life decisions are especially helpful in bringing to life the reasons we need these protections.

·      Always end by thanking them for their support of domestic partnership protections.

Subject: Thank You for Supporting Domestic Partnership Protections

Dear [ Decision Maker ] ,

I am writing to thank you for your support for the domestic partnership protections included in Governor Doyle's budget. Someone in a committed, caring relationship should be able to visit their partner in the hospital or take family leave during a partner's serious illness. This is not about being gay or straight--it's about being fair and decent to all committed couples in your district.

As your constituent, your support personally means a lot to me as these protections will greatly impact the lives of so many gay and lesbian families in your district. We shouldn't stand in the way of a couple being able to take care for his or her long term partner.

Thank you for your consideration.

Sincerely,
