Encourage your state senator to do the fair and decent thing by voting for the budget containing these crucial protections for committed same-sex couples.  Let him or her know that even in difficult economic times, the government shouldn't stand in the way of a couple's ability to take care of each other.

I am writing to urge you to support the budget that includes domestic partnership protections. Approximately 15,000 committed same-sex couples in Wisconsin currently lack basic legal protections, such as the ability to visit a partner in the hospital or make end-of-life decisions.

This isn't about being gay or straight. It's allowing caring, committed couples to take care of each other.

I am aware that you are making several difficult budget decisions to combat the economic crisis facing our state. The budget's provisions extending some basic protections to committed domestic partners are therefore all the more timely, offering a way for Wisconsin to be more competitive in helping attract and retain talented workers to grow our economy. As your constituent, I appreciate knowing that, even in these tough economic times, you will fight to keep these critical protections in the budget.
