As Wisconsin’s statewide lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender education and advocacy organization, Fair Wisconsin recently helped enact important domestic partnership protections for same-sex couples, making us the first state with an existing constitutional amendment banning both marriage equality and civil unions to enact domestic partnerships, and the first state in the Midwest to legislatively enact protections for same-sex couples.

But our work is far from over.  Our opponents are trying to strip even the most basic protections from our state’s same-sex couples.  The Alliance Defense Fund joined Wisconsin Family Action to challenge domestic partnerships in our state’s Supreme Court. Yesterday, in an amazing victory for equality, the court threw out the case and we are preparing for a long battle in the lower courts. 

And with the 2010 elections around the corner, Fair Wisconsin Inc. and the Fair Wisconsin PAC are gearing up to protect our critical pro-fairness majorities in the State Legislature, elect a pro-fairness Governor and prepare for critical redistricting so that we can continue winning proactive legislative victories and repeal the 2006 marriage amendment.
