Protect LGBT Families in 2008
In the struggle for LGBT civil rights in Washington State, the momentum is on our side. During the 2008 legislative session we will build on our recent victories such as the passage of the anti-discrimination law in 2006 and the establishment of the Domestic Partnership registry in 2007. Despite this unprecedented progress, the fact remains that families of same sex couples still have only a small fraction of the rights enjoyed by their heterosexual peers.
Today we ask you first to take a moment to send an e-mail to your State Senator, State Representatives, and the Governor to urge them to support the immediate expansion of the domestic partnership law and also to work for full marriage equality. We must be clear: domestic partnerships are not equality but they do provide important and much-needed protections.
We must take personal responsibility for building this civil rights movement. After you have sent your e-mail you will be returned to a tell-a-friend page. Please ask at least 5 friends or family members to take action. In particular, please try to ask friends outside Seattle, older friends, or perhaps people you have never asked to take action before today. We must grow our numbers if we are to secure marriage equality.

Talking Points
Take a moment to share why protecting LGBT families is important to you. Tell a story about yourself or friends or family members.
Dear [ Decision Maker ],
It is imperative that in 2008 we increase the protections afforded to persons who register as domestic partners. I also want to be clear: same-sex couples need and deserve marriage equality. Domestic partnerships do provide some important protections, but they are nonetheless an inferior legal status.
