Imagine losing your job just because you're LGBT.

Though New Jersey bans discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender identity or expression, it is legal to discriminate against lesbian, gay and bisexual people in 30 other states, and to discriminate against transgender people in 37 other states.

At the federal level, members of Congress have introduced the Employment Non-Discrimination Act, commonly called ENDA.  The bill would outlaw employment discrimination against LGBT people all across the United States.

This new version of ENDA includes both sexual orientation and gender identity, and would therefore outlaw discrimination against all members of the LGBT community.  It is a bill Garden State Equality supports proudly.

Here we ask you to send our prewritten email to your member of Congress, requesting that he or she do everything to make sure the U.S. Congress passes ENDA as soon as possible.

Please help pass the Employment Non-Discrimination Act

Dear [ Decision Maker ],

As your constituent, I ask you to do everything to make sure the U.S. Congress passes the Employment Non-Discrimination Act, ENDA, as soon as possible.

New Jersey is fortunate that state law has banned discrimination based on sexual orientation since 1993, and discrimination based on gender identity or expression since 2007.

But I find it unconscionable that it is legal to discriminate against lesbian, gay and bisexual people in 30 other states, and to discriminate against transgender people in 37 other states.

I ask you to work as hard as you can for the rapid passage of ENDA, which would very correctly ban discrimination based on both sexual orientation and gender identity.

Federal law already bans job discrimination based on race, gender, religion, and other categories essential to a person's being.

LGBT Americans deserve and need the ability to work -- just like all other Americans.

Thank you so much.

Sincerely,
