It was 1994 when ENDA was first introduced. Since then many states have proactively stepped in to enact protections not yet provided through federal law. Three of our neighbor states have done so but South Dakota has not. LGBT South Dakotans and their families are still at risk.
Please call or email our delegation today and tell them ENDA can not wait!
The Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA) prohibits employment discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity. ENDA creates express protections for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people similar to those available under existing federal discrimination laws for other protected classes of workers.
We know for certain that hundreds of you have already reached out about ENDA. But not one of our officials in Washington has confirmed their intent to vote for it. Not one! Not yet! We are still waiting.
So, please tell them again: LGBT people need to work and live and support their families, just like everyone else. They deserve to be judged on their work performance, and not face discrimination based on who they are. Tell them ENDA is vital and a top priority for you and your family.
House action on ENDA is expected first, so please make your first call to Rep Herseth Sandlin.
Thank you for taking action!
Robert Doody, Chair
Equality South Dakota
P.S. Representatives from EqSD will be in Washington on Jan 22 to meet with our officials about ENDA. A flood of calls or email between now and then would get their attention. If you have stories you would like us to convey to them, please share.
