Crisis pregnancy centers (CPCs) advertise free services to women facing an unintended pregnancy. The most common services include free pregnancy testing, options counseling, and short-term material assistance. While most CPCs are run by volunteers, some centers are becoming more medical and offering sonograms and STI (sexually transmitted infection) testing.
 
While these centers claim to provide unbiased information and assistance to pregnant women, the fundamental goal of most of the facilities is to dissuade women from exploring the full range of reproductive health options and to encourage abstinence rather than providing comprehensive information regarding safer sex options.

While it is important to provide low cost options to receive reproductive care and screening for infections, it should be done without the proselytizing or fear tactics that are employed at many CPCs.  We need to ensure that facilities that purport to provide healthcare are not only doing so without an agenda, but are also providing accurate information and a full range of options.

I am writing to urge you to support the Limited-Service Pregnancy Centers Disclaimer Bill.  This bill requires that  people visiting a Baltimore CPC are told up front that they will not receive comprehensive birth control or abortion services or referrals.  They are not forced to provide any information they find disagreeable.  They simply have to inform those visiting the facility that they will not be provided comprehensive information about their options.
    
I urge you to ensure that women seeking information about pregnancy, birth control, abortion, or sexually transmitted diseases are given the facts, not just propaganda.  Please, support the Limited-Service Pregnancy Centers Disclaimer Bill.
