The short explanation of this alert was:

HCR 2065 and SCR 1038, introduced by Speaker of the House Jim Weiers and Senate President Tim Bee, would place an amendment on the ballot in November 2008 that would constitutionally define marriage as a union between one man and one woman.

Anti-equality forces are behind this renewed attack on LGBT families, despite the fact that Arizona voters already rejected the idea in 2006 when they voted down Proposition 107.  Arizona was the first in the nation to defeat an anti-equality marriage amendment, sending a clear message that anti-gay discrimination will not be tolerated in this state.

It will be an uphill battle to stop the Legislature from placing the referendum on the ballot.  HCR 2065 and SCR 1038 are on a fast track to being approved by the Legislature.  But the anti-gay industry can be stopped.

Now is the time to make your voice heard and let your senators and representatives know that you want them to oppose HCR 2065 and any effort to put another anti-equality marraige amendment on the ballot.
