Let doctors--not politicians--determine "medical necessity". An amendment to SB 6386, Washington State's supplemental budget, would prohibit the use of state or federal Medicaid funds for gender identity assistance. This amendment was approved by a vote of 32 to 12 in the state senate, and a 64 to 32 vote in the house. The amendment is now in the conference committee. We are asking that you contact your state legislators to let them know that this policy change is punitive, unwise, and unnecessary. It is in violation of federal Medicaid policy.
