Last year, the N.C. House made history by passing the School Violence Prevention Act, to ensure that all students are safe from bullying and harassment, including LGBT students. On the last day of session, the Senate passed a stripped down version of the bill, which leaves out critical protections for LGBT youth. We need your help to convince the legislature to reject the watered-down version and pass a bill that will provide real protections for all students.

We call on on our state elected officials to ensure that all North Carolina students have a safe place to learn free from harassment and bullying. We call on the legislature to pass House Bill 1366, the School Violence Prevention Act, which will help local schools adopt strong anti-bullyng policies and programs. We further call on the legislature to reject any weakened version of the bill and to restore enumerated categories, including sexual orientation and gender identity, to the bill. These categories are critical to the effective enforcement of bullying and harassment policies.
