Campaign Unavailable We're sorry, this alert is no longer available. If you would like to learn more about ways you can take action, please visit Equality Arizona Advocacy Center. The short explanation of this alert was: Tell Scottsdale's Mayor and City Council Over the past several months, Equality Arizona has been monitoring various incidents of anti-lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender bias and violence in the city of Scottsdale. Equality Arizona has provided support to the survivors in each incident and collaborated with community partners, including the Anti-Defamation League and representatives of the Scottsdale Human Relations Commission. Scottsdale has been the focus of several news stories regarding this apparent trend in anti-lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender bias. Still, Scottsdale's elected officials have not responded. Rather, one Scottsdale City Council member complained that tourism advertising geared at the gay and lesbian community was inappropriate. Further, Mayor Mary Manross demonstrated a failure in leadership when she deleted any mention of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community from a city proclamation that was originally intended to recognize June as Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender Observance Month. Equality Arizona staff have made several attempts to setup a meeting with the Scottsdale Mayor to discuss the issues that are happening in her city. We are currently working with the mayor's office to arrange a face-to-face meeting with the mayor. In the meantime, it is important to tell Scottsdale's elected officials to wake up to what is happening in their city and take a stand against anti-lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender bias/violence. Scottsdale's Mayor and City Council must hear from the our community and our allies. If you would like to view details on this alert, please visit here. |
