Are you a justice of the peace, clergy member, or judge? Would you make yourself available to perform marriage ceremonies for same-sex couples?
Simply sign the form on the right, and we will include your information on a list on our website as a resource for same-sex couples looking to get married in Vermont! On our website we will post only your name, email address, phone number, and town. (The form is called a "petition," but that's a function of our technology . . .)
Clergy, justices of the peace, and judges are legally authorized to sign marriage licenses. In addition, at the urging of Vermont's Secretary of State, our legislature recently passed a "temporary officiant" law allowing any person over the age of 18 to register with the Secretary of State to become a temporary officiant for a specific marriage ceremony. So couples seeking to marry can ask friends or family to serve as officiants if they go through the steps outlined in that law. For more information about the temporary officiant option, link here.
