Take Action!

Stop SB 1250, the "Marriage Protection Amendment," in Committee!

On January 17, 2008, Pennsylvania State Senators started working to pass Senate Bill 1250, the "Marriage Protection Amendment," that would amend the Pennsylvania Constitution to define marriage as solely between one man and one woman, as well as prohibit civil unions and potentially more. On February 14, 2008, the bill was referred to the Judiciary Committee with 17 co-sponsors, the same number of Senators that co-sponsored similar legislation last session. We need everyone to contact your Senator and give a voice to the millions of Pennsylvanians who oppose writing discrimination into our State Constitution. In addition to calling your Senator, we need people to meet, face-to-face, with your elected officials about this important legislation. Meeting with your Senator in their district office is the most effective way to make your voice heard! To find your State Senator's contact information, click here. In 2006, Equality Advocates, with the help of countless LGBT Pennsylvanians and allies across the state, defeated the attempt to amend the Pennsylvania Constitution. Please act now to help ensure fairness for all Pennsylvanians! Additionally, if you are interested in becoming more involved to help defeat this legislation, and pass pro-LGBT legislation in Pennsylvania, please e-mail Jake. If you call or set up a meeting with your State Senator, please e-mail us to let us know! Thank you and with your continued support we will defeat this amendment once again!

Subject: Please Oppose SB 1250, the "Marriage Protection Amendment!"

Dear [ Decision Maker ] ,

As your constituent, I urge you to oppose SB 1250, the so-called "Marriage Protection Amendment," or any other Constitutional Amendment that would deny legal recognition of unmarried families.

I do not support the so-called "Pennsylvania Marriage Protection Amendment," and ask you to oppose it.

Please help to protect all Pennsylvania families and not harm some by writing discrimination into Pennsylvania's Constitution, a document created to expand rights, not limit them.

Pennsylvania law already stops gay and lesbian couples from marrying. This amendment, therefore, is not necessary.

For the well-being of all Pennsylvanians, please vote against Senate Bill 1250 and writing discrimination into our Commonwealth's Constitution.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Sincerely,
