Greetings,
On the 11th anniversary of Matthew Shepard's death,
Equality New Mexico and Working Classroom along with The Lensic,
multiple theatrical spaces, and thousands of audience members
were part of an international conversation about hate crimes and
how we construct our history. If you missed last night, there
will be additional performances
this weekend at the South Broadway Cultural Center ~ October
16-18. With over a 150 cities in the United States a part of
this conversation, Working Classroom is the only organization
that produced a full staged performance.
Tickets are
still available at:
http://www.workingclassroom.org/products-page/
Check out The Laramie Project Online Community at:
http://community.laramieproject.org/
We also have the honor of artists throughout the nation who
contributed a song for a CD that will be sold at South Broadway
Cultural Center for $10 to remember this conversation. Thank you
to all the artists and performers who made this event
happen.
In watching the performance last night, I was struck by how
history becomes shaped and came home thinking about the history
of LGBT civil rights in New Mexico. I was thinking about how
change takes places yet how much work is still yet to be
accomplished.
Our work together is critical in securing legal protection for
LGBT couples and individuals in the New Mexico Legislature, to
making our schools and communities safe for young LGBT people
and to assure full equality in our state and country. We are the
ones that can make it happen!!! It will be our voices, our
engagement, and our participation that make LGBT civil rights
possible throughout New Mexico and nation.
Here is what you can do to support this effort:
Come and see The Laramie Project: Ten Years Later An Epilogue.
Please share with Working Classroom how much you appreciate
their support in our fight for LGBT rights.
