Greetings,
One Big Step Closer to Equality - Show Your
Appreciation!
Yesterday, the Senate passed the Matthew Shepard Act, expanding
hate crimes law and making it a federal crime to assault an
individual because of his or her sexual orientation or gender
identity. Law enforcement partners will now have tools to deter
and prosecute devastating acts of violence.
Finally!
Today we are one step closer to erasing hate. This long-awaited
victory follows years of advocacy efforts. You wrote countless
letters, made countless calls.
Take a bow. You did it!
We still have a long way to go toward achieving true equality --
and it will take more tireless work -- but for this moment, feel
the joy of achievement.
Most importantly, do not forget to thank others who contributed
so they too can feel the joy and renewed inspiration for what
lies ahead.
Call or write Representative Herseth Sandlin and Senator Johnson
to thank them for their votes and for their ongoing commitment
to equality. They have taken criticism for their support of hate
crimes legislation launched by the radical right. We need to let
them know that the majority of people stand with
them.
Rep Herseth Sandlin - 202-225-2801
Senator Johnson - 202-224-5842
