Rep. Hunter, TAMU/UT need competitive benefits. Support HB 861.
- Representative Todd Hunter (R-Corpus Christi) is waffling on his support for House Bill 861.
- House Bill 861 would empower the TAMU and UT systems to offer employee insurance benefits competitive with other top universities.
- Rep. Hunter is potentially the swing vote to get HB 861 out of the Insurance Committee with a 5-4 margin.
- Rep. Hunter needs to be convinced to support HB 861 before the Insurance Committee meets again on Tuesday, April 28th.

Subject: Help TAMU compete! Support HB 861.
Dear [ Decision Maker ] ,
I live in District 32 and you are my state representative.
I am writing to ask you to support competitive employee benefit plans for the TAMU (and UT) systems. House Bill 861 by Rep. Naishtat would empower TAMU and UT to compete with 23 of the "Top 25" national universities that already offer competitive employee benefit plans.
HB 816 would help TAMU and UT system schools attract and retain top talent. Tenured faculty and experienced staff are leaving system schools, and potential hires are declining offers, due to the lack of competitive benefit plans.
HB 861 will NOT lead to a significant increase in health costs for TAMU or UT system schools. There is nothing in HB 861 that requires university systems to pay for ANY of the cost of these employee benefits. As in private industry, system schools could pass the premium cost to the employee, while still allowing the unmarried partner/dependent to participate in the group insurance program.
Please ensure that TAMU and UT systems can compete on a national level for top talent. Please vote "FOR" House Bill 861.
Sincerely,
|
