HOPE NOT HATE
Join

Church of the Savior
This year marks the 10th anniversary of the hate killings of James Byrd, Jr. and Matthew Shepard. On Sunday, October 12, you are invited to attend a candlelight vigil at which the people of Austin will gather to proclaim that hate will not prevail. Instead, we gather as witnesses to share our hope that justice, compassion, and kindness can be the legacy of these two men.
The vigil begins at 5:00 p.m. at University Baptist Church, 2130 Guadalupe Street.
Keynote speaker for the gathering will be Rev. Dr. Stephen Sprinkle, Associate Professor of Practical Theology at TCU’s Brite Divinity School. Austin Police Chief Art Acevedo will also offer remarks. Childcare will be provided, and the evening will be ASL interpreted.
From 2001 through 2006, there have been 1,862 reported hate crimes, but only 9 prosecutions.
