Stop the Hate!
Although anti-gay speech is a depressingly common feature of American political discourse, rarely does one hear the pure poison recently spewed by Oklahoma State Representative Sally Kern in a YouTube video now circulating on the internet.
Unaware that her remarks to 50 supporters were being taped, Rep. Kern offers a shocking anti-gay tirade in which she asserts that homosexuality is "the biggest threat that our nation has, even more so than terrorism or Islam."
Let Rep. Kern and her colleagues know that hate speech is dangerous, that such words create a climate where physical assaults and killings are more likely, and that it is abhorrent for a public official to use her authority to defame law-abiding citizens. Sign our petition!

Subject: Stop the Hate
Dear [ Decision Maker ] ,
Dear Rep. Kerns,
Words matter. As an elected official, your words and behavior set an example for the public. Regardless of your private feelings towards GLBT people and Muslims, it is unacceptable for a legislator to use language that encourages disrespect for or violence against those with whom you disagree. Your statements are especially troubling given the recent spate of hate crimes against gay and transgender youth.
You still have an opportunity to be an advocate for the health, safety, and well-being of all your citizens. I urge you to renounce your hate-filled rhetoric and to make a public apology for your anti-gay, anti-Islamic remarks.
