Greetings,
Today we begin moving forward.
Winning marriage equality in Maine is going to take a little
more work than we anticipated. But be encouraged that we made it
almost all the way, and don't have far to go.
Everything is trending in our direction, including
demographics. In addition, we moved legislators, we moved a
governor, we moved the media, and we moved many voters from Yes
to No. And while we didn't move quite enough voters in the
amount of time we had, marriage
equality in Maine is inevitable.
Our first step in moving forward will be to host a series of
Community Conversations around the state. These conversations
will be an opportunity to debrief the campaign, share stories of
grief and inspiration, and then talk about what we do in the
upcoming months to move us closer to equality.
Community Conversations will
be held December
6th
-10th
in Bangor, Augusta, Lewiston, York and Portland. Dates and times
will be determined and posted as soon as possible. We hope you
will join us for one of these important conversations.
In the meantime, we just heard about two gatherings happening
in response to the election. They are being organized by people
in the community as an opportunity to express sadness and grief
around Tuesday's vote:
Today, Friday, Nov 6,
5:30pm, Congress Square (by the Eastland Hotel) in
Portland
Sunday, Nov 8, 9:30am,
Williams Park in Bangor
We hope you will stay with us on the next leg of the journey
to win marriage equality in Maine.
