Dear Friends,

On Monday, November 2, 2009 at 12:30, I will be standing together with Councilmember Nancy Navarro and her colleagues on the Montgomery County Council to push for the Equal Benefits Bill.

This legislation is simple. If companies and contractors do business with the county and provide benefits to married couples and families, they must provide the same benefits to same-sex domestic partners. This bill would send a strong statement that Montgomery County is ready for full marriage equality to come to Maryland and provide real support to families right now.

We all know that any advancement towards equality that we support will be met with intolerance and prejudice by those who seek to intimidate and condemn our community. We need to show strong support for the bill so that more families have the protections and benefits they deserve.

You can make a real difference by attending and showing your support and it only takes an hour!

PS:   Each incremental change that we make builds the momentum behind our work to advance equality.  The support of lawmakers like Councilmember Navarro and the ongoing dedication of our amazing activist network is what will enable us to succeed in enacting laws providing anti-discrimination protections for transgender Marylanders and equal protections for LGBT couples.  Please consider joining us on Monday!
