Dear [ Decision Maker ] ,
This week you have a chance to make schools safer for all students. Please vote for House Bill 1366, the School Violence Prevention Act.
Most North Carolinians (72%!) and nearly every major organization that advocates for children and our schools support this bill.
The language of the conference report on this bill is patterned after the comprehensive anti-bullying policies recommended by the National PTA, American Counseling Association, National Association of Secondary School Principals, and many other respected professional associations.
Here in North Carolina, Action for Children, Covenant with North Carolina's Children, the NAACP, the Girl Scouts and the Junior League are among those supporting this bill.
Regardless of your views on lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) people, surely you can agree with these and other groups that all students, including LGBT students, deserve a safe place to learn.
This bill helps do just that, not just for frequent targets like LGBT students, overweight students, and disabled students, but for all students. The enumerated categories are a tool for ensuring that those targeted groups get treated fairly.
Again, please vote for House Bill 1366.
Thank you.
Sincerely,
|

A new poll shows 72% of North Carolinians support including sexual orientation in the bullying bill, including 58% of Republicans.
Tell these Senators that protecting kids from bullies --including LGBT kids--is something we can all agree on.
