Petition for Fair Employment
In North Carolina, it's perfectly legal for an employer to discriminate on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity. That's simply wrong. All employees--gay or straight--deserve to be judged on their qualifications and performance, not their identity. Please sign the petition below to help us show lawmakers at the state and local level that North Carolinians are opposed to unjust discrimination.
Dear [ Decision Maker ] , We, the undersigned, call on our state elected officials to ensure that all North Carolinians can work free from the threat of discrimination. We support legislation and policies that prohibit discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity or expression by both public and private employers. Hundreds of major employers have adopted similar policies because they are simply good business. It's time our state took a stand for equal rights and justice for all North Carolinians.

| Background Information |
North Carolina law protects employees from discrimination based on race, sex, national origin, and other categories but does not include sexual orientation and gender identity.
LGBT North Carolinians often face discrimination in the workplace, and many feel they have to hide who they are to keep their jobs.
Equality NC believes that state law should be expanded to protect both public and private employees from such discrimination.
Many major companies in our state have their own policies against discrimination, because they recognize that discrimination is simply bad for recruitment, bad for retention and bad for business.
