Our [straight] Stories Project - tell your story

You are important, and your story is important. Ohioans and elected officials need to hear from you - they need to know why you believe in equality for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people. So tell them...

  • Why are you an ally to lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people?
  • Can you think of a specific incident or moment that moved you, to become a straight ally? Or an incident that reaffirmed your stance that equal rights are for all?
  • What would you tell a legislator if you could sit and talk with them about gay rights?

Tell your story below: write from your heart. Write as little or as much as you want (well, at least up to 4000 characters). You can either type freely in the textbox below, or write your story in a program like Word and then copy/paste it into the textbox. Thank you so much for sharing your story with us.

Background Information

If we don't tell our own stories, someone else will do it for us. We cannot let that happen any longer. It is time that we reach out and share our lives with our fellow citizens and build bridges to understanding. Equality will never be a reality in Ohio until that happens.

The marriage ban was officially enacted on December 2, 2004. Help us make sure that anniversary doesn't go unnoticed by Ohio state leaders. Submit your story by November 21. We will then have time to create the book and deliver it by December 2. All Ohioans must know it's about our state, our lives, and our home.
