ENDA: One Community, One Bill
WEAKENED ENDA MEANS LESS PROTECTION FOR EVERYONE
ONE COMMUNITY, ONE BILL!
Workplace non-discrimination legislation must include sexual orientation AND gender identity--We cannot leave the transgender community unprotected
House Democratic leaders continue to move forward with their plan to introduce a version of the Employment Non-Discrimation Act (ENDA) which removes protections for transgender persons--a move that would leave every member of the LGBT community open to discrimination in the workplace. We must keep the pressure on Congress to prevent this weakened ENDA from being put up for a vote by letting them know that the LGBT community will support only an inclusive ENDA and will oppose any version of ENDA which does not protect every member of the lgbt community.
Please contact your U.S. Representative and Speaker Nancy Pelosi to let them know that you:
(1) Support only an inclusive ENDA - one that includes protections for ALL lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people; (2) Support the Baldwin Amendment to HR 3685-- Rep. Tammy Baldwin (D-WI) has introduced an amendment to the non-inclusive version of the ENDA, HR 3685, to restore gender identity protections. Any bill that does not include gender identity and expression does not effectively protect lesbian, gay, bisexual, OR transgender people. It leaves ALL members of our community vulnerable to employment discrimination. Only an inclusive ENDA provides the protections we need.
There is no room for "compromise" when the subject is equality for all.

Subject: Support Inclusive ENDA: One Community, One Bill
Dear [ Decision Maker ] ,
I am writing to urge you to:
(1) Support only an inclusive Employment Non-Discrimination, specifically one that includes protections on the basis of gender identity as well as sexual orientation.
(2) Support Rep. Baldwin's amendment to HR 3685, which will restore gender identity provisions to that flawed version of the legislation.
Any employment nondiscrimination bill that is not inclusive of gender identity both excludes transgender individuals and leaves gay, lesbian, bisexual and straight employees subject to discrimination if they do not conform to rigid gender stereotypes.
Sincerely,
|
