PRIDE AGENDA ACTION CENTER
Get Your State Senator to Act on Dignity!

Dignity for All Students passes the Assembly, now it’s the State Senate’s turn.

On February 27
the Assembly continued its years-long trend of passing the Dignity for All Students Act by a huge bipartisan majority.  It’s time for the State Senate to pass this important legislation NOW, and your letter can make the difference!

The Dignity for All Students Act seeks to ensure that all students in public schools have an environment free of harassment and discrimination based on race, national origin, ethnic group, religion, disability, sexual orientation, gender (including gender identity and expression), and sex.

Students in public schools can not afford to wait for these protections.  Just last month, a 15 year-old California student named Lawrence King was murdered in the classroom by a fellow student in what appears to be a hate crime motivated by King’s perceived sexual orientation and gender expression.  We cannot let New York become the next state where we lose a student to hate-based harassment and bullying.

Subject: Please Co-Sponsor and Support the Dignity for All Students Act

Dear [ Decision Maker ] ,

The Dignity for All Students Act (S.1571/A.3496) has just passed the Assembly with a vote of 130-9. Clearly, protecting New York's students from bias-based harassment and discrimination is a bipartisan issue, and the Senate should act in a similarly bipartisan manner and swiftly enact this bill into law.

Students in public schools can not afford to wait for these protections. Just last month, a 15 year-old California student named Lawrence King was murdered in his classroom by a fellow student in what appears to be a hate crime motivated by King's perceived sexual orientation and gender expression. We cannot let New York become the next state where we lose a student to hate-based harassment and bullying.

I ask that you co-sponsor the Dignity for All Students Act (S.1571) and work to get it voted on in the Senate this Legislative Session. The time to act is NOW; New York's students shouldn't have to wait!

Sincerely,

Campaign Launched:
