PRIDE AGENDA ACTION CENTER
Ask your State Senator to Support GENDA!

The New York State Assembly has voted 97-38 to pass the Gender Expression Non-Discrimination Act (GENDA) to provide crucial civil rights protections for transgender New Yorkers by banning discrimination in housing, employment, credit, public accommodations, and other areas of everyday life. Click here to read our statement on GENDA passing in the Assembly.

Now, we need you to take action in two important ways: first, take a moment to thank your Assemblymember if they voted “yes” on GENDA; and second, with a few clicks of your mouse, send the letter below to your Senator asking them to support GENDA in the New York State Senate.

It’s important to thank our legislators when they do the right thing. First, click here to find out who your Assemblymember is. Then, click here to see how they voted on GENDA (A.5710). If they voted “yes,” call the Assembly switchboard at 518-455-4100 and ask to speak to your Assemblymember to thank them for standing on the side of equality and justice.

Second, all you have to do is click on the “Send This Message" button to automatically send the letter below to your Senator to ask them to support and vote for GENDA. Your Senator needs to hear from you!

Subject: Please support the Gender Expression Non-Discrimination Act

Dear [ Decision Maker ] ,

The New York State Assembly recently voted 97-38 to pass the Gender Expression Non-Discrimination Act (GENDA). GENDA would amend the state's human rights law to include anti-discrimination protections based upon gender identity and expression, providing crucial civil rights protections for transgender New Yorkers by banning discrimination in housing, employment, credit, public accommodations, and other areas of everyday life. As your constituent, I encourage you to support GENDA when it comes to the Senate floor for a vote.

Transgender New Yorkers shouldn't have to live in fear that they will lose their job, get kicked out of their apartment or be denied service in a restaurant just because of who they are. It's time for the State Senate to do what 78 percent of New York voters know is right: end discrimination against transgender New Yorkers once and for all by passing GENDA in the Senate and making it law in New York State.

I encourage you to support and vote for GENDA. I will be watching as the legislative session continues to see how you have acted on this issue.

Sincerely,

Campaign Launched:
April 22, 2009
