Excited about Iowa? Help Us Win in New York!

The great news coming out of Iowa today is even more reason to get involved with efforts to make marriage equality—and other important pro-LGBT bills—the law in New York State.

You can make a big difference in helping us win marriage equality, transgender civil rights and safe schools for LGBT youth in New York this year by joining us at LGBT Equality & Justice Day in Albany on April 28.

At E&J Day, you will have the opportunity to tell your story to your elected officials. The most powerful form of advocacy is meeting face-to-face with the people in Albany who decide whether or not LGBT people and our families will be treated equally in New York. If you have been wondering when the right time to get involved is—when it would matter the most—THE TIME IS NOW.

Click here to register. The registration deadline is next Friday, April 10!

Whether you are LGBT or a parent, friend, family member, business leader, neighbor, colleague, teacher, union ally, classmate or someone who simply cares about equality and justice—there is a meaningful role for you at Equality & Justice Day:

Below are just a few of the ways in which you can get involved and be one of the 1400-plus people who will be making a difference at Equality & Justice Day:

  • Are you a member of a union?  2.1 million New Yorkers are in unions that support marriage equality, transgender civil rights and safe schools for LGBT youth.  Your union may be sponsoring a bus to E&J Day, meaning that you can attend E&J Day for free. Union bus sponsors so far include:  New York State United Teachers (NYSUT), 1199SEIU Healthcare Workers United East, AFSCME DC 37, SEIU Local 32BJ, RWDSU, and the United Federation of Teachers. For more information and an updated list of union sponsors, contact Sheilah Sable at ssable@prideagenda.org

  • Are you a member of a faith community? Typically dozens of clergy and congregants come to E&J Day and participate in all aspects of the program—from meeting with legislators to attending the noontime rally. There is also an interfaith prayer service that attracts more than 100 participants. Bring a group from your church, synagogue or mosque and take action with other voices of faith. For more information, contact Kate McDonough at kmcdonough@prideagenda.org.

  • Are you a young professional? The Pride Agenda’s OffSprung! program, which seeks to engage the next generation of LGBT leaders and advocates, will be going up to Albany together in a bus leaving from New York City. There will also be an opportunity to network with people from across the state during the day at the Pride in My Workplace caucus. For more information about OffSprung! at E&J Day, contact Stephanie Berger at sberger@prideagenda.org

There will be opportunities for transgender people, youth under 18, people of color, college students, seniors, straight allies and community ambassadors to connect with others from across New York and discuss issues affecting specific communities.

Be a part of what will be the most important Equality & Justice Day ever. The registration deadline is Friday, April 10—so register today and reserve your place in Albany on this historic day.

Scholarships are available—for more information about covering the $40 registration fee, contact Allison Berwald at ejday@pridagenda.org.
