Because of lingering legal questions involving what
is required when the Governor calls for an extraordinary
session, and the impasse that still remains between two groups
of State Senators, today’s session lasted only a few
minutes and none of the bills that the Governor put on the
agenda—including the marriage equality bill—were
brought to the Senate floor for a vote
today.
Stay tuned for our
email updates as this situation continues to unfold—and be
prepared to take action and call your Senator as soon as we let
you know that we need you to do so.
We knew that
winning our right to marry would not be easy—and there was
certainly no way of predicting the events that currently have
Albany in chaos. But because of the hard work that we’ve
all put into strategic organizing, constant lobbying and keeping
the issue in the spotlight, we are still in a position to win
this year. Keep up the hard work and don’t let what you
see on the news discourage you.
Earlier this year
the State Assembly passed Dignity for All Students, GENDA and
marriage equality—and now it’s time for the State
Senate to do the same.
