Help Us Win – Take Crucial Action on Marriage Today!

Yesterday, we wrote to share with you the important news that Gov. Paterson has put the marriage bill on the State Senate’s agenda for next Tuesday, November 10. Our community has been re-energized by this chance for a respectful debate on our lives and our families on the Senate floor. Although we’ve encountered unforeseen bumps in the road over the past few months and some may have become discouraged or disappointed with what’s transpired along the way, now is the time to re-engage and re-activate as we make our final push for marriage equality!

Here are three easy ways to stay involved at this crucial time in our fight:

1. Call Your State Senator. With just a few days left until November 10, we need to make sure you deliver the message to your Senator that you, as a constituent, expect them to vote on and support the bill. Use our click-to-call tool to place your call NOW. Just click here and you will be prompted to enter your information so you can be matched to your Senate district. You will then receive a phone call that will patch you through directly to your Senator’s office. The tool even tells you exactly what to say. Most calls take under two minutes! Click here to call now!

2. Spread the word online.

We’ve created the above graphic and the message below so you can change your Facebook profile photo and dedicate your status to raise awareness. Just copy the photo above and change your status to: “The marriage equality bill is on the New York State Senate's agenda for this upcoming Tuesday, Nov. 10. We deserve a respectful debate and vote on our families and our lives. Call your State Senator NOW to tell them to vote "yes" on marriage! If you support marriage, please post this as your status.”

3. Get fired up! We just posted our 2009 Pride Agenda video on YouTube. The video takes a look back at the Pride Agenda's extraordinary year of fighting for equality and justice for LGBT New Yorkers. Watch this inspiring video as a reminder of the work we’ve done on all of our key issues, and how far we’ve come.

We’re so close to winning on one of our issues—marriage equality—and we’re so glad to have you with us at this important moment in our movement. Thank you for your continued hard work—we couldn’t make change happen without you!
