We're Winning & They're Desperate!

We need your help one last time this session.

The extreme fundamentalists are pulling out all the stops in their efforts to enshrine discrimination into the Louisiana constitution.

They bused in people to lobby on Monday and, right now, there is an out-of-state phone bank calling select voters to urge them to contact their Senators and Representatives to convince them to support this awful bill.

We need your help to hold them back and to keep from allowing a "freedom to discriminate" based upon "sincere religious belief" to be passed.

You can help defeat this bill by sending letters to the selected members of the Louisiana legislation

Subject: Please vote against HB 340

Dear [ Decision Maker ] ,

I'm writing to strongly encourage you to vote against HB 340. The Freedom of Religion section of the Louisiana Constitution is the exact same wording as the U.S. Constitution. It is clear and unambiguous, and has been for the last 218 years. It does not need to be changed.

HB 340 would open a Pandora's Box of problems for government at all levels, with all laws (including equal rights laws) subject to religious objections. It transforms our State Constitution's Freedom of Religion to a Freedom to Discriminate. It would also create a freedom to deny medical treatment and medications, including birth control pills and life saving AIDS medicine.

I URGE you vote against and help defeat HB 340. It is badly written and is bad for Louisiana. Thank you.

Sincerely,

Campaign Launched:

Background Information

HB 340 would change the Freedom of Religion section of the state constitution to allow individuals to disregard those laws that limit their right to "freely express his sincerely held religious belief" and to act accordingly, unless the government shows a compelling government interest.

It transforms our State Constitution's Freedom of Religion to a Freedom to Discriminate.
