Families, Too
We presented this powerful short film to the Louisiana Commission on Marriage and Family:
This film is in response to efforts by extreme fundamentalists to abolish and weaken the legal status of our families. Although the Commission was created to strengthen all Louisiana's families, no matter what form that family takes, many of the Commission members would prefer to dismiss us as being out of order. We ask that the Louisiana Commission on Marriage and Family recognize the value of same-sex parents and understand that we have families, too.
Please send a letter to the Chair of the Commission
outlining the importance of respect for same-sex parents and family units that include lesbians and gays as full and equal participants.

Subject: Respect Our Families, Too
Dear [ Decision Maker ] ,
Thank you so much for allowing the Forum For Equality to make a presentation to the LA Commission on Marriage and Family.
While the state constitution may define marriage as between a man and a woman, it does not define family. Lesbian and gays have families too, and we ask that the Commission remember that when making policy recommendations on ways to reduce the incidence of single-parenting and the numbers of children languishing in foster care.
Removing discriminatory barriers to the legal rights and responsibilities that come with second parent adoption will help Louisiana's most vulnerable children and strengthen all our families.
Sincerely,
|
