URGENT: South Jersey school board under attack for courageous curriculum featuring LGBTI families!

On Monday, January 22, WCAU-TV/NBC 10 Philadelphia reported that the Evesham School District in Marlton, New Jersey -- in Burlington County near Philadelphia -- has a curriculum on diversity that includes a film featuring children raised by same-sex couples and other families.

The film shows one child saying of her same-sex parents, "They adopted us and they love us."   Garden State Equality has just posted the Channel 10 story on YouTube, where you can watch it now at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WoptZkeyXZM

Bravo, Evesham School District!   We need to let the school district know we support them.   It's imperative:   Some parents are angry that their children are being taught about LGBTI families.  We know what that means:  Those with these prejudiced seniments tend not to let up.

Well neither do we!   The fact is, more people stand with us in New Jersey, the state that doesn't hate.   We must come to the school district's defense and do all we can to encourage the district to stick to its decision.

Please send the e-mail below, prewritten by us, to Evesham School District officials.   All it takes is a click.

And please join Garden State Equality at the next school board meeting of the Evesham School District on Tuesday, February 13, 2007 at 8:00 pm, 25 South Maple Avenue, Marlton.

So many times, brother and sister activists, we must hold accountable those in public life who do wrong by our community.   Now let's support our courageous leaders who've done right -- urging them to stand strong!

Subject: Thank you, Evesham School District! I proudly support your curriculum on diversity.

Dear [ Decision Maker ] ,

I am so deeply proud of all of you at the Evesham School District for your curriculum on diversity that includes all kinds of families, including children being raised by same-sex couples.

Channel 10 in Philadelphia yesterday reported that some parents are upset. I assure you that in our progressive state of New Jersey, the overwhelming number of parents and other citizens stand by your entire curriculum strongly.

That's very much the case in South Jersey, with one of the nation's fastest growing lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex communities.

Indeed, I am thrilled that today's children are learning about the rich mosaic of all the families around them. I wish such teaching on diversity was part of the curriculum when I was growing up.

You're to be especially commended for choosing this particular film, "That's a Family!" The film was screened at the White House before educators and children's advocates from across America, all of whom consider the film to be a breakthrough for diversity education. As you know, the film has won many awards.

Along with the civil rights organization Garden State Equality, I count myself among the many thousands of New Jerseyans who are deeply proud of your curriculum.

You at the Evesham School District are playing a vital role in making the next generation embracing and loving of all.

I thank you.

Sincerely,
