Indianapolis Human Rights Ordinance
Your city councilor needs to hear from you! The Indianapolis City-County Council will soon be voting on Proposition 622 - an update to the city's Human Rights Ordinance that includes sexual orientation and gender identity. The Council needs to know how you feel about the ordinance. Use this form to email or fax your councilors and ask them to protect our families from discrimination.
Dear [ Decision Maker ] , I am a resident of Indianapolis and Marion County. I am writing to ask you to support Proposition 622 - the proposed update to the Indianapolis Human Rights Ordinance. This is an issue of critical importance to my family. Proposition 622 includes much-needed protections against discrimination based upon a person's race, national origin, religion, sex, age, veteran status, disability, sexual orientation or gender identity. Intolerance and bias should never be condoned. Lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender Hoosiers are particularly vulnerable to discrimination in the areas of employment and housing. Indianapolis residents have been fired from their jobs or denied housing based solely on their sexual orientation or gender identity. Whatever our religious beliefs or political affiliations, Hoosiers stand together to uphold the traditional American values of fairness and equality. Almost 70% of Marion County residents agree that Indianapolis should have an inclusive human rights ordinance similar to other large, thriving metropolitan areas. I urge you to vote YES on Proposition 622. Please bring Indianapolis into the distinguished company of world-class cities who value the contributions of all its citizens. Thank you.
Sincerely, |

Your city councilor needs to hear from you!
The Indianapolis City-County Council will be voting on Proposition 622 - an update to the city's Human Rights Ordinance that includes sexual orientation and gender identity protections.
Not all of the 15 votes needed to pass the HRO are solid - some of the councilors are still deciding how they'll vote. This is why it's important to energize our community and get everyone involved.
The right wing extremists are already gearing up their attack machine to bombard the council with thousands of auto-generated emails and faxes. They are preparing their side to place hundreds of phone calls to overwhelm the council with negative comments and lies about Prop 622.
We need your support to make sure their plans fail! Our success will depend on our ability to turn out our community at the council chambers and our ability to generate letters, calls, and visits to individual councilors.
The Council needs to know how you feel about the ordinance. Take action to email or fax your councilors and ask them to protect our families from discrimination. And then use the Tell-A-Friend feature to pass this opportunity on to other Marion County residents so they can make their voice heard!
