Save the date for IE's Second Annual Holiday Event!

On Thursday, December 10, 2009, friends and supporters will be gathering to celebrate the accomplishments of Indiana Equality and to raise needed funds to support our organization’s efforts for equal rights for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender Hoosiers.  RSVP NOW

Now in its second year, the event, “Holiday IN the Old Northside” will take place at the home of local Realtor and supporter, Joe Everhart.  Located at 1238 N. Park Avenue, the 1873 Italianate house was known for decades as the home of the Saengerchor, a German social club. The home has been restored to its nineteenth-century appearance except for the basement where the German-styled bar has been retained in honor of the landmark’s social club era.

Once again this year, delectable soups, breads and desserts from local restaurants and chefs will be featured at the event. Live entertainment will be provided throughout the evening by Jessica Benge and Deb Mulins.  We hope that you can join us at our “Holiday IN the Old Northside” event on Thursday, December
10th.  RSVP NOW

As you are probably aware, Indiana Equality has been working hard on the Human Rights Ordinance (HRO) project around the state.  We are working in several communities to get sexual orientation and gender identity in their HROs.  In addition, we have been setting our strategies for 2010 and meeting with key legislators...MORE

Become a Key Advocate

Indiana Equality Action has begun to identify key advocates in targeted state legislative districts across the state. The goal of this program is to create a positive working relationship with legislators in the Indiana General Assembly by means of constituent-lobbyists, called Key Advocates. The Key Advocates put a “human face” on the LGBT/Allied community and maintain contact with legislators to promote specific issues....MORE

The day-long training were presented by Nora Ranney, Director of State Advocacy for the national ACLU LGBT Project.  The LGBT Project provides support for LGBT advocacy organizations and allies to make change at the local and state levels...MORE

National LGBT History Month

LGBT citizens are often surprised by the reactions we get when we Come Out.  In fact, if you ask 5 LGBT's how they might define Coming Out, you're likely to get definitions ranging from coming out to oneself to a public announcement.  And of course, we know that there are various reactions from positive and supportive (have to love that) to outright opposition and strong denunciation...MORE

Washington
It will be Election Day in a little over a month and one of the tightest fights is shaping up in Washington over domestic partnership protection. Washington Families Standing Together organized a very strong campaign, but they still need help. Take Action

DOMA
State by state, we've been achieving marriage equality. In the last year alone, Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine, and Iowa have joined Massachusetts and Connecticut to recognize the marriages of same-sex couples. Despite these victories, the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) prohibits federal recognition of these marriages.  Many states use DOMA as their model for discrimination.  Repealing DOMA is a crucial step forward.  Take Action

Healthcare Reform
Like all Americans, LGBT people have seen health care costs skyrocket and insurance get priced beyond the reach of many working people. Even people who can afford insurance can wake up to find that they're no longer covered by huge companies who only care about the bottom line. In most of the country where our relationships aren't recognized, LGBT families are especially at risk because our partners and children aren't covered by employer health insurance plans. LGBT people often face unfair barriers to accessing even routine health care. Take Action
