signing up as a Key Advocate for Equality! We are excited to give
you some additional information about the program, and invite
you to one of two training workshops. This comprehensive, interactive session will
provide you with all of the information you need to successfully
advocate for equality.
We invite you to

Relationship with Your Legislator

Successfully Getting
Your Point Across
Tasks of a Key Advocate for
Equality:
· Developing a
personal/professional relationship with a given legislator
– if possible, outside the context of lobbying for
particular LGBT issues.
· Attending trainings to become
knowledgeable about lobbying and the complexities of the issues
pursued by IE Action.
· Developing an understanding of
the legislator's personal interests and political
needs.
· Meeting with or communicating
with the legislator to discuss those issues key to particular IE
Action initiatives.
· Actively seeking out
opportunities to interact with the legislator in an informal
setting – i.e. local social settings, political forums,
official events, meetings with local
constituents.
· Recruiting local LGBT persons or
Allies who can help lobby the
legislator.
· Participating in the annual Lobby
Day, bringing constituents to speak with the legislator in the
Statehouse.
