Dear Supporter,

Yesterday, the next American president was chosen by fair-minded folks just like you.  The campaign, which we will never forget, was historic in a number of ways. The LGBT community had a tremendous amount at stake.  Ultimately, now we all know that our next Commander-in-Chief will be President-Elect Barack Obama of our neighboring state of Illinois.  President-Elect Obama’s promise to the country during his campaign spoke specifically to the LGBT community on just about every one of our issues.

Now that the campaign is over, it is the role of the entire fair-minded community to ramp-up our education initiatives and advocacy efforts to see those campaign promises kept.  President-Elect Obama committed to support the Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA), hate crimes legislation, and gays and lesbians serving in our military.  He further committed to support civil unions and fair policies on adoption rights.

The fair-minded community has great potential over the next few years and here at home, in Kentucky, we must commit to the job ahead.

We have a lot of heavy lifting ahead of us, folks, but for now, let’s celebrate.  We want you to join us and other fair-minded Kentuckians in “Celebrating Democracy & Diversity” at the 4th annual Out & About gala this Friday evening at Louisville’s 21 c Museum.  We will be presenting our annual awards, eating Proof on Main delicacies, and dancing with Nightowl DJs.  Purchase your tickets here.

Come on Kentucky - celebrate our great democracy & diversity!

Your KFA Leadership,

Jody Cofer (chairperson, Benton), Brandon Copeland (Greensburg), David Corbett (Louisville), Lee Etta Cummings (secretary, Richmond), Christina Gilgor (executive director, Lexington), Mike Handley (Louisville), Chad Hundley (Lexington), Jessica Loving (Louisville), Travis Myles (vice-chairperson, Louisville), Don Wenzel (Prospect), and Nick Wilkerson (treasurer, Louisville)

Ampersand. The Ampersand symbolizes the solidarity we are building through Friends & Family, and suggests the inclusiveness we are working toward. It reflects the idea that no one individual, legislator, organization, or city can carry all the water for equality. Our success lies in our solidarity.
