Thank you 2009 Co-Sponsors

Greetings,

Yesterday evening, the General Assembly adjourned their 2009 regular session.

We are thrilled to report there was NOT ONE PIECE of legislation passed by either the House or Senate that harmfully targets the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender community.

Show your continued support for a fair Kentucky by making a contribution today.

Our “Friends & Family” membership program allows you to make a one-time donation (as a friend) or become a recurring donor beginning at $10 a month (a family member).  Continued success is found in our solidarity and YOUR support.

Moving Forward

The e-advocacy, phone calls, and visits delivered this session sent a strong message that was heard loud and clear!

Join us now in sending a thank you note to the legislators that co-sponsored fairness friendly legislation.  Their actions this session continued to say, yes, “Fairness is a Kentucky Value”.

In fairness,
Your KFA Team!

Thank you for co-sponsoring fairness friendly legislation during the 2009 regular session. I know that sometimes your efforts go unrewarded and that is regretful.

I look forward to seeing the designated hospital visitation bill and the statewide fairness bill prefiled for 2010. I stand ready to assist in securing other co-sponsors and continuing to educate citizens in my area of the state on the importance of these two much needed pieces of public policy.

What's At Stake:

Legislative Session in Review

Senate Bill 68 (“Divisive Child Welfare Shift”) was filed by State Senator Gary Tapp and sought to ban adoption and foster care by gay couples.  This bill picked up traction, but you stopped it... for now.

On a more positive note, State Representative Mary Lou Marzian’s House Bill 280 (“Hospital Visitation Bill”) was filed for a second year and not only received Committee support – it passed the House of Representatives by a landslide.  Representatives Palumbo, Watkins, and Westrom joined Marzian in co-sponsoring this bill.  State Senator Kathy Stein filed similar legislation in her chamber.

And finally, House Bill 72 (“Statewide Fairness Bill”) that would prohibit discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity throughout Kentucky in employment, housing, and public accommodations was filed again.  In the House, Representatives Marzian, Flood, Jenkins, Meeks, Palumbo, and Westrom filed the bill.  SB 95 was filed in the opposite chamber by Senators Stein, Harper-Angel, and Shaughnessy.
