Today in Iowa, thousands of committed gay and lesbian couples are doing the hard work of building strong families every day yet lack the basic legal protections they need to take care of each other and their families. Committed couples lack access to health insurance benefits for their families and are denied the responsibility of making medical decisions for a partner. These Iowa families need and deserve the protections and responsibilities of marriage to provide security, dignity, and a legal safety net for their families.
Iowa has a long tradition of and commitment to equality, fairness, and ensuring that all families are protected.
As an Iowan committed to fairness, I support marriage equality!
