Stand up for equality!
History was made tonight in Maine. Never before has a state referendum supported marriage equality. Voters in Maine sent a clear message to equality opponents: You can throw your money and venom at us, but Americans know what's fair and what's right. In Iowa, we are facing the same Goliath that Mainers felled by a tiny margin. With their loss in Maine, anti-gay groups like The National Organization for Marriage will turn their attention back to Iowa, trying once again to mire us in a divisive fight, pitting neighbor against neighbor, at a time when we should be standing together and getting our state back on track. Our conversation in Iowa is more important than ever. With the President supporting a repeal of DOMA, New Hampshire preparing for their first same-sex weddings in January, and families in Washington state finally enjoying protections equal to marriage, we must take advantage of these positive developments to make NOM and its cronies understand we do not want discrimination written into our constitution.
