Marriage equality needs you on Tuesday, November 3rd for Election Day! Join us for One Iowa's Saddle Up for Equality phone bank sponsored by The Blazing Saddle! Volunteers from Des Moines and across the state will be making phone calls into Maine in support of vote NO on 1.
Marriage equality is under attack in Maine, and no matter where you live, there's something you can do about it. One Iowa has pledged to donate one night of resources to the fight in Maine. Please help us fufill that pledge.
On May 6, 2009, Maine ended discrimination in marriage for all LGBT families. But the fight is not over. Like we're facing in Iowa, opponents of marriage equality want to turn back the clock. They are working to pass Prop 1, a November ballot measure - modeled after California's Prop 8 - to take away the right of LGBT couples to marry in Maine.
Far right extremists have imported their national anti-equality agenda to the Pine Tree state with the goal of stripping away marriage rights. The same group that bankrolled Prop 8 in California has set up shop in Maine and has out fundraised the local effort by 2-1. Despite that, polls show fairness is winning by a slim margin, thanks to the local grassroots No On 1 effort to protect Maine equality. But we can't leave them alone to stand their ground. We need to rally to support the local effort
In the office we will have pizza and as an added thank you, each volunteer will receive a FREE drink ticket good at The Blazing Saddle anytime in the next 90 days.
If you don't live in the Des Moines area or want to volunteer from the comfort of you own home we will email you instructions on how to log into our website and make calls from your home phone or cell phone to voters living in your area. Every call is important.
