What Steering Committees do: Steering committees work with One Iowa staff to organize local events, build strong networks of local supporters, and educate the public on issues facing Iowa families. A local presence is required in order to fullfill our mission in your community and local Steering Committees are the key to maintaining an active presence in local communities across the state.
How is this accomplished? As an organization we can provide invaluable tools in implementing One Iowa programs which include running local phonebanks, hosting house parties, organizing legislative contacts, writing letters to the editor, planning monthly educational events, or promoting happy hours.
Are there any organizational benefits to being on a Steering Committee? Yes, in fact Steering Committees are such an integral part of One Iowa that all Steering Committee members are invited to participate on a monthly conference call with One Iowa staff. We host the call at 6pm on the first Monday of every month and provide a campaign update of what we've done over the last month and what we plan to focus on over the upcoming month.
Information and communication are a key part of moving forward in this campaign to protect equality and One Iowa wants to ensure that local leaders are empowered with the information and resources they need to keep fairness for all families.
How do I get on/or start a Steering Committee? Easy, just sign up, or contact Matthew Skuya at 515.288.4019 or email at organize@oneiowa.org.
