Subject: Gender Identity Ordinance
Dear [ Decision Maker ] ,
I am writing to urge you to vote YES to add Gender Identity to the nondiscrimination ordinance in Kansas City.
While it is illegal to discriminate in housing, employment, or public accommodations in Kansas City based on sexual orientation, it is still perfectly legal to discriminate based on a person's gender identity. Kansas City must work to eliminate all forms of discrimination, including discrimination against transgender people.
Transgender individuals are a vibrant, vital part of our community, just as gay, lesbian, and bisexual people are. By protecting the rights of transgender people, Kansas City can help eliminate discrimination that leads to poverty, homelessness, and political and social isolation for all transgender people in our city.
Currently, 91 jurisdictions, including 8 states and University City, MO have laws or ordinances protecting people from discrimination based on actual or perceived gender identity. I urge you to help make Kansas City, Missouri jurisdiction 92!
Sincerely,
