Spotlight on a Member
Bradley Alan Minton

Bradley Alan Minton, our Spotlight Member for November, is a lifelong resident of Dexter in Southeast Missouri. He encourages everyone to remember, "It is up to each individual to decide how you want to further the cause...there is strength in numbers, but always remember just one person--one act--can make a difference.

What do you do for a living?
I have been actively engaged in farming for 30 years. I run a very diversified farming organization, balancing agriculture and wildlife/wetlands restoration. These efforts have allowed me to own and operate Moccasin Ridge Hunt Club which provides some of the best duck hunting in the Mississippi Flyway.

Why do you work for LGBT equality?
An important point I would like to stress is that while it is sometimes easy to leave a small, rural town and move to a larger metropolis, I personally feel it was important for me, for my small role, to stay and thrive and be myself in my very small, ultra conservative community. In my own way, I feel as though by staying, being myself, being out and outspoken in the community, that I forced rural America to acknowledge we are everywhere.

Do you do any other activist work?
As for other community involvement, I have the privilege to serve on the Board of Directors for Claudia Foundation of Poplar Bluff. Founded by Linda Bloodworth Thomason, writer and producer of Designing Women this non-profit organization provides scholarships for non-traditional students. I also serve on the Board of Haven House, a non-profit organization providing shelter and support to women of domestic violence here in Southeast Missouri.

Why I Give to PROMO
Springfield Black Tie

PROMO works tirelessly to improve the lives of Missouri's LGBT community by advocating for our rights and by educating both our community and the community at-large on our issues. Black Tie is committed to raising money for charities which serve the LGBT community of Springfield and southwest Missouri, and because PROMO is the only rights advocacy organization which has made a consistent, long-term commitment to us, we have made a commitment to them. Our support of PROMO is returned in the form of people on the ground in Springfield working to understand this community's issues, to bring about positive change and in offering us a place at the table in the statewide discussion of LGBT rights.
